Ocean Avenue 1920's

Then....

This photo is not dated but from the dirt road, one can assume that we are looking at the 1920's or perhaps earlier.

Then....

Back when Ocean Avenue was a dirt Street, the Shangri-La sat quietly as a cottage.  Next to it, on the right, a boarding house called aptly "The Towers"  literally towered above nearby cottages.  The Towers burned around the turn of the century.  Notice the extra width of the lawns in days past when sidewalks even existed.

This photo looking up Ocean Avenue with the Shangri-La's sign out front was probably taken in the early 1960's.  Notice that the Pavilion was gone from the corner of Ocean and Greenwood to be replaced by two colonial style homes, both of which remain today, but both of which stayed empty for their first 6-8 years of life.
