Damage To The Silver Sands 1979

Then....

We have featured the Silver Sands Hotel before on these history pages, but we have never taken you up close to see the damage

caused by the dual storms in 1978 and 1979. The picture on the right shows the major damage to the under pinning's of the

hotel which led to the ultimate decision to take the structure down. On the right photo, the building has taken the first cut by

the demolition crew.

The property was owned at the time by Joan Kelly who also owned the Pavilion and the house at the corner of Bayview and

Pearl which was recently torn down.

The empty lot which was the Silver Sands property was sold by Joan Kelly in her last year of life with the deed

stipulation that no structures will ever be allowed on the property.
