Upper Ocean Avenue 1920's
Then....
This history photo comes from an old post card file owned by Rodney Laughton. You would be standing about 30 yards down Ocean Avenue from the intersection of Greenwood and Ocean Avenue and looking back toward the Higgins Beach Market.
On the left, you can see the familiar roof line of the Higgins Beach Inn and further up Ocean above the mailboxes is the old Higgins Beach Variety Store. On the right is the porch and window of the old Higgins Beach Pavilion, and further up Ocean on the same side is a lot of empty space!
Notice also that traffic is going two ways on a dirt road.
Now....
Photo taken 8/28/15
The Pavilion was torn down in the early 1960's and two homes were put in its place. Trees obscure a lot, but you can still see the old store in the distance above the white mailbox.
